HOOLIGANS! BLOODY HOOLIGANS! AN ENTITLED GENERATION WILL SELF-DESTRUCT. My mother told me when I was a child that no matter how much money I had, I would have a job to learn what things cost. Everyone of my five children had jobs from the time they were fourteen; their mother insisted on it. They didn’t understand it then because none of their friends had jobs, but they appreciate that training now–well, all but one, TRUE! What makes me so damn mad is these students have no idea how horrific their behavior is. If THIS is how students who are at the universities act, then something is not happening in the world of public and private education. No, these students need to get real here. THERE IS NO MONEY TO GIVE THEM. That’s the bottom line. So, I suppose their behavior is a form of pouting. Pouting never worked for me when I was a child. And I don’t think it is going to work for rioting students either. I listened to the head of the organization that organized these riots who was interviewed by BBC. All she could say was somebody has to pay, but the students aren’t going to take responsibility for the cost of their education–that should be free. I think they are more a student culture than students with real academic goals. You get the feeling that they are a political force. PARENTS, grab your kids and get them in control. Or, did you quit doing that when you failed to pay attention when they were young? This is a horrific situation. This is tantamount to anarchy.
People are fighting for the freedoms of the Western World all over the globe; maybe these students need a good period of time serving their nation rather than draining its empty coffers. I am just mad, I suppose. But, somebody better get mad. There was more television time spent on the rioting student’s case who was hit by a police truncheon than on all the wounded police trying to control the situation. Watch, those parents are going to try to sue someone! Doesn’t that tell us what happened to the child? My father told me that if I got in trouble at school, I would be in a lot more trouble when I got home. Yikes! Let’s keep our eyes on this story. I suggest that PINK FLOYD’S GUITARIST get hold of his son who disgracefully climbed the Cenotaph and admitted he was on drugs. (HE HAS APOLOGIZED ON FACEBOOK; HE SAYS ITS THE WORST THING HE HAS EVER DONE!) Thee is no greater loss than failure in a home–that’s where it all starts. Being worth 71 million pounds doesn’t make up for a lost child and a delinquent father. Look at the photo of the student urinating on the base of Churchill’s statue; does that get your blood boiling–or what? I don’t think we should forget this incident soon; there is a lot to learn from this. Perhaps public works programs instead of tuition subsidies.
I understand student grants, loans, Pell Grants, on and on. But the days of free university education are over–there simply are no funds to subsidize a generation of students. Sorry, but that is the reality of the situation. So, let’s get creative here, Students. AND STAY OFF DRUGS AND ALCOHOL; you will be a lot better off. The money might pay for your education! Eh?

Good Lord, why don’t we just pack it up. Thanks for showing these photos, Tom. It is pretty bad, when we US Anglophiles love the UK and its heritage more than its own young people. I gave a speech last year in the UK during which I saluted those in the audience who had served in the British armed forces. A number of these old vets came up to me afterwards to tell me that it was the first time in their lives that anyone had thanked them for their service. Amazing. COL(ret) Kevin W.

I thought the Churchill statue had an electric current through it to prevent pigeons from landing there. Churchill commented he didn’t want a statue for pigeons to poop on.
