DOWNTON ABBEY: Maggie Smith, Hugh Bonneville

Filed under: Film and Theater — tmooresr @ 12:35 am

Last week I bought the PBS Masterpiece Classic DOWNTON ABBEY – 3 DVD collection.  These late evenings, Mrs. Moore and I have been watching this amazing production.  I am posting this short comment because I think this joins CRANFORD as “musts” for an Anglophile’s DVD library.  On the back of the case, it states “Dame Maggie Smith turns in a show-stopping performance as Violet, the charmingly stubborn Dowager Countess of Grantham, matriarch of Downton and the irrefutable authority on everything.”  I think the cost was $28.00 for the entire collection, and I am as happy as a “bug in a rug” with my purchase.  Do consider squeezing this small purchase into your budget;  it is a treat that can’t be forgotten.  Maggie Smith–oh my goodness!  Watch it over and over.   Just a heart-felt suggestion–for sure!

  1. Downton Abbey is a real treat with everything we love about great historical dramas: brilliant acting in every role, gorgeous sets and costumes, superb dialog, a compelling plot. I read an article about Angel’s Costumiers a couple of months ago that briefly mentioned a military uniform they were fitting for Hugh Bonneville – I can’t believe we have to wait so long for the next installments but good things come…
