LONDON PUB: The Grenadier, Belgravia

The Grenadier Pub, 18 Wilton Row, Belgravia, SW14  7NR

This wonderful neighborhood pub was once the officers’ mess of the Guards’ barracks and reportedly “club” of the Duke of Wellington of Waterloo fame.  Now it is a pub in one of the most exclusive neighborhoods in London–a Belgravia mews.  I was invited to meet with friends at their home near Belgrave Square.  They wanted to visit their favorite pub:  the Grenadier.

When we arrived, it was like the perfect picturesque English pub.  It is hidden away in such a charming setting, not large, but with a very loyal clientele  The menu offered typical English fare, but you have to have reservations or arrive early because the pub is very popular.  I ordered Beef Wellington which was fantastic, and my friends had Cumberland Sausages and Mash/onions, and roast beef and Yorkshire pudding  It was all wonderful.

I am used to Covent Garden pubs like the Shaftesbury on St Martin’s Lane, but this pub was a totally different experience.  It was quaint, had a neighborhood feel, and the atmosphere was wonderful.  Our friends like the cold ale, and I like my tonic and lime.

If you have shopping in Knightsbridge or have just visited the Palace, have dinner in this wonderful pub very near to these locations.  I really enjoyed it, and so did a lot of others from the look on the faces of regular visitors.

Nice.
