In the trunks which my grandfather left behind, I found THE CORONATIONN OF THEIR MAJESTIES KING GEORGE VI & QUEEN ELIZABETH – OFFICIAL SOUVENIR PROGRAMME. It hasn’t seen the light of day in 50 years, but it has yellowed into a rich historic family document. This April is the month of a Royal Wedding, and the focus is on the Royal House of Windsor. The Queen will be all-smiles, and the Duke of Edinburgh will be covered in military medals–very happy grandparents. The Prince of Wales will stand proud and pleased by the choices his older son has made. The Prince and his two sons have had a long journey since the death of the Prince of Wales. But, they have done a great job together.
In that spirit, I decided I would post my grandfather’s souvenir program for the Coronation of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth, Prince William’s great grandfather. The sense of continuity is one of the major contributions of the Royal Family to British public life.
I knew my readers would enjoy seeing a few of the pages from the brochure. The Coronation Poem by the Poet Laureate is very appropriate to review at this time, a National Celebration.

I also have one of these souviner programmes. In fact, it was 74 years old last May. Any idea of the value (if any) of this official programme?

I have a anointing spoon that has a date of May 12, 1937. It says was used in the ceremony. It is gold, and has a tiny emrald on it.
Is there any value?

I have a medal which was sent to my Grandfather “to be worn in commemoration” of the coronation. It is inscribed “1939 – 1945″ but my Grandfather would have been about 63 years old at the outbreak of the First World War, so what was the medal for? I would be glad of any information!

I have a photocopy of page 19 of a brochure which I think is this one. It refers to Simon Brech in the last line. Can any owner of a programme confirm that my copy is indeed of this 1937 programme? Many thanks.

“I have the same program but on the rear cover there is a delicate (rice paper?) covering and it is stamped USA edition”. It is in brilliant color and appears to not have seen the light of day since 1937. Stunning piece of history, especially after seeing “The King’s Speech”
