I AM GRATEFUL TO YOU ALL! Xmission reports 6,050,804 visits to THE ANGLOPHILE 1st and 2nd Quarters of 2011 — Daunting!

Filed under: THE ANGLOPHILE HOST — tmooresr @ 7:52 pm

I have spent weeks walking the streets of London, sitting on my pitch for the Royal Wedding reports, crossing the North Atlantic on a luxury liner, eating in every restaurant I could schedule, trying tons of pastries, attending plays and concerts;  I have ridden trains and planes and ships, and posted hundreds of articles and images for THE ANGLOPHILE.  It has been a real pleasure.  When XMission confirmed that for the first and  second quarters of 2011, just ending, I have had 6,050,804 visits to this effort.  I had to look at the numbers several times because I never really understand numbers above 100 very well–all those groups of three with comas and dots.  You all have been wonderful sending me photos, articles, hints, suggestions, thank-you’s, and sometimes corrections.  I have loved every minute of it.  And now the office handles FACEBOOK.  Thank you so much.  I keep thinking someone is going to get very sick of me one of these days!  I started all this because my wife suggested that there might be others who might like to listen to me talk about Britain– and to share other people’s discoveries– to give her a moment of peace.  She has been a real help.  I wish I knew each and every one of you.  Wow!

I do love to keep my ear to the rails and to listen to the word on the street.  I talk to everyone I meet who enjoy traveling as much as I do!  By the way, Mrs. Moore and I have booked passage on the Queen Mary2 for August 2012 for a second passage–we don’t want to miss out on all the conversations with all the most amazing passengers who love to talk about Britain.  Why don’t you come along.

THANK YOU.  Tear!

I tried to find this book at Barnes and Noble yesterday.  I was told it wasn’t even in their “system” yet.  I told them to call up their warehouse and give them a piece of my mind!  I want to read this book, and I think my readers do also!  Come on, Barnes and Noble!  Get with it;  you have readers out here–yeh!  Anglophiles!

COVENT GARDEN BARS AND CLUBS

Filed under: Clubs and bars — tmooresr @ 4:19 pm

Several people who are staying in London have asked about bars and clubs where they can relax and entertain friends.  Asking me about bars and clubs is like asking me where to find a thread and needle shop in Ankara.  I am no good at a bar;  I don’t drink, and I get very sleepy and fall asleep every time I go with friends who enjoy bar life in the evening/night.  But I realize many of the clubs have great music and excellent food.  I am just not the guy who will have first hand experience.  I was talking to one of our clients this afternoon who said there was a mini-website where there is a list of clubs and bars–and he knows most of them.  He suggested these recommendations as a good start for people who enjoy clubbing.   Check it out and let me know.  Have fun!  Hm, I wold prefer sitting at an outdoor cafe reading David McCullough’s GREATER JOURNEY, AMERICANS IN PARIS.

THE LONDON CONNECTION RECOMMENDS PROPERTIES IN PARIS

Filed under: paris — tmooresr @ 12:31 pm

Mrs Moore and I enjoyed our visit to Paris last month.  As I mentioned in earlier articles, we met a photographer who was preparing his photographs for commercial use.  While we were chatting about our cameras, I asked him where he was staying.  With confidence, he said that he had identified a lady who had a few apartments, and he recommended working with her.  The owner of the company is a lady named Isabelle.  I am posting her information so that my readers who are interested in Paris might check out Isabelle’s properties.  I am going to meet with her while I am in Europe in August and see her accommodations.  I am excited about offering these properties.  They appear charming and in good condition while being in superb locations.  Nice.   Check it out, and let me know.  Nice

Filed under: Canada — tmooresr @ 3:14 am

The fairy tale continues to grow!  This is a new era for the Monarchy in Britain and the Commonwealth.  From all indications, everyone is ready to make the Royal Tour in Canada the greatest Royal Tour in North America.  We are all eyes and ears for this exciting moment.  The Queen must be thrilled to see her grandson take hold so quickly.  She will be sitting back in Buckingham Palace in front of the television enjoying every minute of it.  What a fantastic addition to her Diamond Jubilee year– about to begin.

BOROUGH MARKET: An exciting destination for London visitors –Exciting FOOD — PHOTO SHARING

Filed under: Food — tmooresr @ 12:21 pm

When I come to London several times a year, Maureen Walker picks us up at the airport and takes Stephanie and me to our home to drop off our luggage and then off to Borough Market we go.  I love the prepared food at Borough Market and I like the “groceries” we buy for our meals at home in London.  But what I like most is photographing the magnificent images of the fresh food.  I am posting some images from various recent London trips, and I hope these Photographs encourage my readers to spend at least  one morning of your  London stay at Borough Market.  It is so fun.  Really fun and great food.

PORTOBELLO ROAD: Saturday morning at 8:00 AM

I have written numerous articles about Portobello Rd–good reports and cautioning reports.  But through it all, some of the dealers are clearly my good friends.  I want to recognize Hillary Kashdan who has had a stall on the street for numerous years.  She was called THE PEWTER LADY for all the many years she and her husband sold outstanding pieces of early pewter–still do as an aside.  When contemporary tastes changed, Hilary added a dimension to her fine pewter business:  vintage clothing.  I was shocked, to say the least, when Hillary took on this new direction, but she loves the vitality and changes on the street.  Above all, she is my good friend, and I want to highlight this fine person and her new business.  She and her husband are really fun people.  While you are on the street looking for items to add to your collections, stop by Hillary’s booth and say HELLO for me.  Make her a good friend of yours, you will enjoy her.  She still offers fabulous pewter, so ask her about it.

Wonderful.

LONDON SUMMER OLYMPIC GAMES: WATCH OUT FOLKS, LONDON IS GOING “LAS VEGAS” STYLE FOR THE OLYMPICS!

Filed under: OLYMPIC GAMES — tmooresr @ 7:56 am

Can you imagine Tower Bridge having rings which light up GOLD and SILVER and BRONZE?  For the next 25 years?  Who has gone mad here.  I can’t believe what I am reading.  I suppose the life size bronze sculpture of Queen Victoria near Tower Bridge will have its crown lighted up, her diamonds sparkling with Christmas lights, and her diamond necklace changed to a lighted Olympic rings necklace with a new sign below that says:  ”Glitzy Vicky shows up for the Summer Games ready to twinkle!”  I suppose London has to raise the bar and do a better bridge than Sydney, but I can’t believe this.  Any response?

THE BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU RATES THE LONDON CONNECTION A+

Filed under: LONDON CONNECTION FLATS,London Connection — tmooresr @ 11:03 pm

THE LONDON CONNECTION is a family business.  My son Thomas Jr. and I work long hours with our team in our offices in the United States and in London to assure the best accommodations in London.  We have been happily working with clients and owners for nearly thirty years, and we have loved every moment of it — well, almost.  We understand that people arrive in London TIRED, and our London team is eager to make arrivals free of frustration.  Cristina has been in the property business for years and joined our team three years ago.  She works long hours and is eager to see that everything is perfect.  The housekeepers “live” on roller skates;  they are “magic” people and perform miracles.  Our airport services organized by David Norman and Maureen Walker are more than a taxi ride into central London.  You will never meet finer people to greet you to this amazing city.  I suppose I am trying to say that the team give their ALL.  Our office manager in the United States is Becky Hinze who is assisted by Emily Ballard who are on top of a huge work load seeing that the documents are perfect for our London team.  They work well with clients who call the offices about properties, money, and bookings.  We are grateful for them, I assure you.  Thomas Jr. and I take this business very personally.  We have been in every one of the flats, and we have stayed in almost everyone of them.  We know our product.  We know locations, the benefits of each flat, and all the conveniences around each flat.  Three years ago, my son Richard set up a blog for me to write about London to give ideas, details, and suggestions to clients.  I attend Royal Weddings, go to concerts and plays, attend openings and exhibitions, and eat my  way across England and write about it all on my blog:   www.blog.londonconnection.com    Recently, Emily worked with our computer man Sheyne Anderson to create a FACEBOOK account to engage people in a dialog about London.  This is our “world,” and we enjoy sharing it all with you, our visitors.

Needless to say, I was very pleased to receive our Better Business Bureau rating this afternoon.  We feel it is accurate, deserved, and revealing.  We have worked for years for this rating.  With great pleasure, I express my gratitude to our visitors who have significantly contributed to this rating.  After all, without you all, there would be no business, no blog, and certainly no FACEBOOK.  I find great pleasure reading the many feedback letters from returning clients posted on our website:   www.londonconnection.com

This is a very happy moment for me personally.  I am grateful to you all.

THE NATIONAL GALLERY and TRAFALGAR SQUARE: Photo sharing — Absolutely beautiful image

Filed under: Uncategorized — tmooresr @ 11:59 am

It doesn’t come any better than this image.  Did you know that the columns on the National Gallery were once adorning Carlton House, once the house on the Mall belonging to Fredrick Prince of Wales and George IV when Prince Regent.  Much of the contents of the elaborate house now make up the glorious items in Buckingham Palace and the Royal Collection.   George IV and his architect Nash just moved his great collection down the street to Buckingham Palace which he never saw completed.  The best of the best!
