T GOODE AND CO: South Audley Street, Mayfair

Mayfair is rich with beautiful architecture.  The buildings along South Audley Street are rich with late Victorian and early Edwardian architecture.  T Goode and Co’s building is particularly lovely.  Right on South Audley Street

THE VICTORIA AND ALBERT MUSEUM: The SPECTACULAR Inner Court

Many people visit the Victoria and Albert enjoying the collections and exhibitions without really enjoying the building itself.  I want to post these magnificent images of the Victoria and Alberta’s architectural details in hopes of encouraging visitors to pay special attention to the beautiful detail of this building.  Enjoy.

Prince Albert, the Prince Consort’s dream was a museum, arts, and science complex at South Kensington.  This magnificent part of London is a result of the Prince Consort’s great dream.  I wonder what London would look like if the Prince had lived past the page of 41.

THE CHAPEL ROYAL: The Queen’s Golden Jubilee Windsor — 2002

Filed under: Sunday Services — tmooresr @ 11:17 am

At Christmas time, I was attending a small Sunday service and could not get my eyes off the massive 2002 Queen Elizabeth II Golden Jubilee Window.  It was splendid.  I have encouraged people to attend early morning vespers at Westminster Abbey and St. Paul’s Cathedral.  But if  you have a Sunday morning, attend church at the Chapel Royal where Queen Victoria was married.  It is a beautiful experience.  Enjoy the photos.

LONDON 18TH AND 19TH CENTURY IVORY THEATER TICKETS/TOKENS — Help me find a few more!

Filed under: Thomas Moore Sr — tmooresr @ 9:37 am

A few years ago, I inherited several late Victorian and some Georgian 18th century ivory theater tickets/tokens.  I love them a lot because they have belonged to members of my family for as long as 200 years.  I am trying to locate a few additional ivory tickets to complete another necklace for a daughter.  If anyone can help me locate a few of these objects, please contact me.  I would be really grateful for my readers’ assistance.  Thanks so much.

THE SIGMUND FREUD MUSEUM TO CELEBRATE 25 YEARS

Filed under: London Exhibitions — tmooresr @ 7:13 am

I wonder what it would be like to lie on Freud’s famous reclining sofa?  I had an uncle who was a Freudian psychiatrist, and I was fascinated by his stories.  My father and my uncle used to get into very heated arguments about the human mind and the depths of the human soul.  I don’t know about repressed sexual expressions, but my father said he was a happy, happy man but he didn’t attribute his happiness only to his successful sexual life.   To a young boy of 13, those discussions were more than interesting.  Freud certainly opened up a world of analysis–for sure.  I think it is very fashionable these days to have a therapist, talk about our emotional frustrations, and open up our souls to anyone who wants to hear.  My grandmother would certainly have put her handkerchief over her mouth and mumbled NO, OH NO.  These are interesting times, for sure.  Sometimes, I agree with Rousseau with his suggestion that we return to a more simple life.  I do know, however, that when people refer to opera as “orgasm music,” I know we have gone too far with our seeing sex in all aspects of our lives.  Yes, Granny, keep the handkerchief over your mouth and keep sighing.
