DAVID SHILLINGLAW’S NEWSLETTER — “Contemporary visual language”

I understand that my readers are probably  conservative in taste, and I realize that contemporary art takes a “leap of faith” sometimes.  When my son firmly confronted me with a question  WHAT ART DEFINES OUR TIMES?  I had to do some personal reinventing.  I personally like to pass by Philip Mould Gallery on Dover Street, but I have grown to enjoy a larger field of art as I grow older.  I told my wife that when it is warmer and we are back from the Diamond Jubilee Celebrations in London, I am putting up a huge canvas in the forest at our home above Park City, and I am going after it with huge buckets of brilliant color.  When I redo the next flat I acquire for The London Connection, I will engage David Shillinglaw to accomplish something fantastic.  Some of you may think I have lost it;  others may say BRAVO.  But I have been following Shillinglaw’s work and videos.  I have looked at his canvases and walls, and scratched my head.  I rode on a motor bike to East London to see a recent wall that this artist did when I was in London in February.  It all adds up for me;  it has been a journey I have enjoyed, and I will march in the Shillinglaw Parade anytime.  I think he has talent, and his heart pumps rich RED BLOOD.  His work is young, fresh, vibrant, and NOW.  Hold on, Folks, this young man is going places–if he doesn’t burn himself out!  I have cautioned him.  As my grandchildren say:  HE’S A HECK OF A NICK GUY!  On top of that, SHILLINGLAW HAS TONS OF TALENT.
