My son handed me an iPad; I said I would use it to read books while I am traveling as books are getting heavy in my carry on. I have been playing with it like a scientist who is trying to understand the workings of the universe. I live in a world of books. The hallway cupboards are filled with old books, some from my great grandparents’ lives. I cherish my books because they are a record of my life: filled with notes, comments, and questions. My son tells me that my books take up too much space, and he can have all his reading on his iPad. All his points are true and well taken, but I just can’t give up my library. I love yellow pages, the smell of dust, and those beautiful bindings. So, this morning, I found ten luxury houses around the world with interesting libraries. I said to myself: THAT IS WHY I LIKE A BOOK. Anglophiles like books; I think it is part of our antiquarian nature.
