This is truly a magnificent stamp, a superb celebration. Where has that spirit gone? I see danger!

This very early morning, I found a very interesting email on my computer sent to me by one of my blog contributors in Australia. This Australian gentleman sent me several amazing photographs of the beautiful city of MELBOURNE, Australia. Among this collection of beautiful photographs was an image of a set of three candelabra–THE MELBOURNE CENTERPIECE– presented to Lord Melbourne by Queen Victoria and HRH Prince Albert at the time of Prime Minister Melbourne’s retirement. We all know the story about Lord Melbourne which was well presented in the movie THE YOUNG VICTORIA. THANK YOU, “Mr. Contributor” for these images. I have not known this history.

This early morning, I find a comment on my blog from an individual living in Sydney stating that the new Australian coach BRITANNIA has left Australia for London, but there has been no publicity. Does anyone know anything about this story?

This morning, I put together an article about OLD GROSVENOR HOUSE, once the residence of the Marquis of Westminster and Dukes of Westminster, before it was torn down for the Grosvenor Hotel. The magnificent gates which were attached to the Grosvenor House SCREEN were purchased at the time of demotion and ended up in Sydney, Australia. Read this; it is quite good fun!

These wonderful of the Queen in Australia in 1954 were sent to me by a friend in Australia. In one of the photograph, the Queen is wearing her Coronation dress of 1952. I look at these images, and I am amazed by how things have changed. The photographs portray a very different era where the Queen’s visits were so highly anticipated and regarded. The gentle bowing and signs of respect have gone–I fear we are losing very important qualities and values in our lives. For me, I like a living head of state where the symbol of a nation or Commonwealth nation lives, breathes, and captures our imaginations. I saw a British Pathe film some months ago about the Coronation and the events of the day; there was an amazing scene where a group of friends had gathered in a home to view the Coronation on their new television. When the Queen entered Westminster Abbey and the national anthem started to play, everyone in the private house watching on television stood in the most wonderful way. I find it very satisfying to acknowledge something very special, very cherished that brings tears to our eyes and sends goose bumps up our spines. Am I old, am I out-of-date, am I identifying with a long-gone generation? I have to say that I have not found anything that is as fulfilling. When I see students rioting in London where the royal car is attacked by a student who pushed a stick through the window hitting the Duchess of Cornwall, I know we are living in a different age. When I see photographs of the same student swinging from one of the flags on Cenotaph, I shutter. I hope, alas, we can hold on to some of the values which really hold our societies together. I remember the days when GOD SAVE THE QUEEN played at the end of movies in cinemas. It seems so long ago. Well, this is Australia in 1954. I hear young people yell words like PRIVILEGED, IRRELEVANT, OUT-OF-TOUCH; at the same time they wear T-shirts with Marilyn Monroe’s face or Madonna’s filth or another movie star’s profile whom they worship and adore. I pause and wonder. It is no equal trade, I assure you.

I wrote an article about this coach last year. At that time, the coach was still in Australia. It appears the Australian has taken a different a different view on these matters; but, thank goodness, the “coach saga” has been resolved and delivered. Yikes.

It has been snowing for two days in my part of the world, and my family are skiing all over our mountains of Park City, Deer Valley, Snow Bird, Snow Basin, on and on. In contrast, another phenomenon came to me this early morning from one of my contributors in Australia: a TORNADO FILLED WITH FIRE. What really excites me about putting together this blog is the amazing photographs I received from readers from around the world. These images really intrigue me. Thanks so much, Barry!
