URBAN BEE KEEPING: The JOY OF MY LIFE!

Filed under: Bees and honey — tmooresr @ 8:34 pm

One of seven hives in my bee garden, filled with bees and wonderful local honey.  A great joy!

My regular readers know that I am an URBAN BEEKEEPER, and I follow the growth of urban beekeeping in London.  There is nothing more satisfying than having bees pollinating your orchard and enjoying the many flowers in the garden.  When the day is drawing to a close, I enjoy taking a book into the bee garden and watching the bees as they wind down from a busy day collecting pollen.  Well, today was the day to start seven new hives to supply honey for our friends and neighbors.  We love to give honey for Christmas, and our friends are always asking when the next extraction day is going to be.  For some reason, I have a feeling I am contributing to the life of the planet I am living on.  When I read about bees dying all over the earth, I feel like establishing hives everywhere I travel.  I had a few old hives in storage that needed life, so my bee man helped me put them right.  I am so excited about this time of year when life seems to start all over again, and I am anxiously getting ready for my spring stay in London.  I want to be in London for the bee conference at the Lancaster Hotel.  I wrote an article about it.  Oh goodness, I love my Italian bees!  There is nothing like Rocky Mountain honey–it’s that mountain air!  London Urban Honey comes second!

Look how the Queen comes!

LONDON URBAN BEES: CONFERENCE AT THE LANCASTER *** 8 OCTOBER

Filed under: Bees and honey — tmooresr @ 7:40 am

This should really be fun.  I am a beekeeper, and in my view urban bees are essential for the survival of our planet.  That’s a strong statement, but it is true.  No bees–no pollination–no food–BANG!

THE BEES ARE BUZZING: It is spring, and we have to prepare for a great “honey” crop world-wide, OR ELSE! Heads up!

Filed under: Bees and honey — tmooresr @ 7:29 am

Read this!  We can’t leave the issue of bees to others.  Many people have gardens, orchards, and farmland.  The bee population must be included and sustained.  I was thrilled when I saw beehives in the gardens of Clarence House.  Bravo Prince Charles!  The Queen has several hives in the gardens of Buckingham Palace as well.

I loved this article.  I have never searched around Bermondsey for little restaurants.  I will in January.  Beekeepers are special people, I have found.
