LONDON TRAVEL WITH VITAMIN C

Filed under: health — tmooresr @ 10:52 am

Almost once a week, I hear from someone who has been in London and came home with a horrible head cold.  While I was in London in January, several of my American friends who were in London also had sore throats and coughs.  This morning, I was speaking with a visitor who just returned from London and said they had a fabulous trip except they caught a bad cold.  I thought to myself that I have been in London in December and January for many years, and I have never had a head cold.  I thought I would make a few suggestions.

1.  DON’T LEAVE THE STATES “EXHAUSTED.”  All the time, I hear people say OH, I WILL SLEEP ON THE PLANE.  To arrive in London exhausted is not wise.  You will arrive, the weather will be cool and in some cases very damp.  People arrive, take a shower, and with great excitement take off into the heart of London.  That first night, they are overly exhausted and sleep poorly and within two days, signs of head calls begin.  All of that sequence should be avoided.  Travel rested;  enjoy the flight.  Take a shower and have a short nap when you arrive.  Dress warm!

2.  Take a nap the first afternoon in London

3.  Have a light meal like soup when you arrive.  Toast and tea is great

4.  TAKE VITAMIN C.     THE MINUTE I ARRIVE IN LONDON, I VISIT THE CHEMIST–I PREFR BOOTS.  These chemists are all over London.  I buy VITAMIN C – 1000mg.  I am posting an image of the container.  I have been taking this brand of VITAMIN C for many years.  In fact, I bring 10 containers home with me and take this brand all winter long.

5.  Take warm gloves and a stocking cap–cover up your ears!

I can imagine you are thinking THOMAS MOORE MUST BE NUTS.  The purpose for my blog is to help people have the best trip possible.  Let me assure you, a bad head cold is the best way to ruin your experience.  I strongly encourage you to visit BOOTS as a matter of urgency upon arriving in London.  I can assure you that it has been very helpful to me.  The worst feeling while on a trip to London is to numb my body with Sudafed and then walk around London in a cloud.  I assure you, it is awful.  Believe me, it can happen to you.  PLEASE, this is a matter of urgency.  Be well!

A cold will spread through a group and will ruin everyone’s experience abroad.

Let’s have no disappointments while on a great,  anticipated trip to London.

Best.

MEDICAL EMERGENCIES WHILE VISITING LONDON

Filed under: health — tmooresr @ 11:03 am

This morning, a client who is going to London for Christmas asked me what I recommend in case they have a medical emergency:  sore throats, broken bones, on and on.  I told them I am not connected to the medical profession in any way, but if I were suddenly very ill, I would grab a cab quickly and go to the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital.  The only reason I make that recommendation is because I know they have a 24-hour Accident and Emergency Department.  The taxi driver will know its location, but just in case, it is located on the Fulham Road, Chelsea.  Remember, I am not a medical person, but that is the recommendation I would give to a member of my immediate family.  Take it for what it is worth. Also, you ask the taxi driver what he would do.  They see these kinds of situations all the time.  Here are a couple suggestions.

That reminds me.  Be sure when you travel that you have your insurance travel card and health plan identification.  Check with your provider to make sure you know the authorization phone numbers in case the hospital wants to confirm your medical coverage.

Before you leave the States, have a discussion with your insurance  company to be sure you have coverage outside the United States.  If not, be sure you take travel insurance which offers health coverage.  At the least, have a conversation with your insurance agent who knows your coverage.  You need to know.

Stay WELL, and get some sleep while you are in London to avoid unfortunate sickness.
