MAHATMA GANDHI’S CORONATION GIFT TO THE QUEEN AND HIS YEARS IN ENGLAND

Filed under: India — tmooresr @ 12:05 am

We have all heard the story that Gandhi’s humble gift to the Queen at the time of her coronation offended Queen Mary.  When Queen Mary came to view the coronation gifts, she was diverted from the simple cloth woven by Gandhi.  The life of Gandhi in England is a fascinating story.

THE DELHI DURBAR: THE DURBAR CROWN ~~~ The finest stones in the Crown Jewels~~

King George V was not allowed to take the Imperial State Crown out of England for the Delhi Durbar in India.  So, his Indian subjects provided the stones for this magnificent crown–a bit reluctantly, I might add.  The crown was worn only once.  The quality of the stones in the crown are of the finest quality.  This is the finest picture I have ever seen of the DELHI DURBAN CROWN.  Enjoy!

MUNSHI ABDUL KARIM: Thoughts of INDIA, the “diamond in her crown” occupied the Queen’s world until her death in 1901.

Equerry Frederick Ponsonby stated:  The Munshi occupies very much the same position as John Brown used to.”  When the Queen died in 1901, MUNSHI ABDUL KARIM returned to India with a royal pension.  His splendid portrait now hangs at Osborne House on the Isle of Wight.
