BOOK REVIEW: “INHUMANITIES: NAZI INTERPRETATIONS OF WESTERN CULTURE” —I want to hear from someone who has read this book, please!

I am fascinated by the reviews of this book.  I have read all of the books about recovering the Nazi looting of European museums and collections, and I am absolutely fascinated.  One of best friends contributed a fine FRAGONARD canvas to a university museum.  Recently, the painting was discovered to be part of private collection which was taken by the Germans when they invaded Paris.  Of course the painting has been returned, but what a fascinating story.  I am after this book INHUMANITIES:  NAZI INTERPRETATIONS OF WESTERN CULTURE.

HISTORY TODAY: “A CURSE AND A BLESSING” – A very interesting article which I highly recommend

Filed under: LITERATURE — tmooresr @ 1:04 pm

HISTORY TODAY  is a “treasure house periodical” each month.  The quality of research and level of interest is wonderful.  In the February 13 journal which I just received,  an amazing article A CURSE AND A BLESSING by Jerome Carson and Elizabeth Wakely  has been fascinating.  EGBERT’S ENGAND BY George T. Beech and HOW TO BUILD A BETTER WORLD by Tom Cargill have been fascinating, but A CURSE AND A BLESSING is really fascinating.  You can read these articlest on line, if you have  not yet subscribed to this fantastic monthly periodical.  Brilliant!  MENTAL HEALTH and great world figures will intrigue you.

When I arrived in London a few weeks ago, I walked to Covent Garden from Haymarket and ran into the new memorial to Agatha Christie.  It is a very attractive bronze to a very deserving lady.  Check it out!

HATCHARDS BOOK SHOP IN PICCADILLY ~~EVERYTHING I LOVE TO READ~~

Filed under: LITERATURE — tmooresr @ 9:05 pm

Visiting HATCHARDS BOOK SHOP on Piccadilly is like a child going into a candy shop.  What is so wonderful is the manager who has been there for years.  I have wandered around HATCHARDS since I was very young and often endure my flight back to the States laden with heavy books which are more important to me than my passport.  I wanted to purchase Jane Ridley’s BERTIE and THE FINAL CURTSEY by Margaret Rhodes, the Queen’s cousin.  The gentleman in the bookshop had just finished BERTIE, and he spoke in glowing terms about the careful research that went into this very interesting book.  THE FINAL CURTSEY was written by the Queen’s cousin who has been a companion to the Queen as well to the Queen Mother.  She is a Bowes Lyon cousin and visits the Queen in both London and Balmoral.  Well, I now have three books going at the same time;  when I am finished with my day, I read myself to sleep.  But often my fascination keeps me up all night.

“DAUGHTER OF EMPIRE: LIFE AS A MOUNTBATTEN” BY PAMELA MOUNTBATTEN HICKS

Filed under: LITERATURE — tmooresr @ 11:35 pm

When I arrived in London, our London manager handed me a book to read when I take a few moments to myself.  I am half way through the autobiography, and I am enjoying the light read.  What an interesting family!  I can’t get my head around some of the details.
