Just a few moments ago, I received a photograph from Ricardo, our London assistant manager. IT IS AN OLD RED PHONE BOX WHICH HAS BEEN CONVERTED INTO A CASH POINT. Everyone has a mobile phone, so the old phone boxes were being removed and lost forever. It was a shame because they are part of London’s landscape. I was really pleased to receive this email photograph. Splendid and creative. Iconic

THAT GRIFFIN at the end of the Strand as one enters the official CITY OF LONDON is a very interesting landmark. TEMPLE BAR used to have a gateway which was moved because of increasing London traffic. It was replaced during Queen Victoria’s reign and is adorned with very interesting bronze depictions of important events in the Queen’s life. The Queen’s procession to Guildhall in the gold State Coach has amazing detail. But the interesting bronze is the Queen riding with her son and heir, Prince Albert Edward, to St Paul’s Cathedral for a celebration of gratitude after the Prince recovered in 1871 from a bout of typhoid which nearly took his life. The illness changed the public’s view of the Prince from a scoundrel-playboy to a future king. The event also softened the Queen’s feelings toward her wayward son. It is an interesting bronze. When you are walking up the Strand and on to St. Paul’s Cathedral, hop across the road and enjoy the detail in the TEMPLE BAR.
