THE LONDON CONNECTION has had the services of an outstanding photographer, Mr. Ian Churchill, who has expanded his own business; we are really thrilled about his success. So, our company had to search for a new property photographer. Mr. Aldo d’Ponte from ARBITRAGE GROUP suggested a young photographer named GEORGE DANIELL whom he uses for his real estate promotions. The photographer came to meet with Cristina and to photograph our new property on BEDFORD STREET. We were pleased with these recent photographs which you can see on the Internet www.londonconnection.com, but we were stunned that George is so young. His photographs were just what we needed, so we asked him to photograph another new flat, “THE HAT FACTORY ON OXFORD STREET,” and we were again really pleased. No airs or graces; just hard work!

Luckily, two VERSIONS of this important early 1852 photograph survive. When the Queen saw one of the copies, she rubbed out her face. She rarely looked at the camera her entire life, yet at times the photographer captured an enchanting image of one of the most enigmatic personalities of the 19th century. Here are the two images–even the one the Queen herself defaced!

I have known many of these photographs for years, but I paid no attention to the photographer. This evening, I have been reading a book I found in my father’s library about William Downey, LONDON’S FIRST PHOTOGRAPHIC STUDIO-1855. I am fascinated. Downey was born in 1829, ten years before the invention of PHOTOGRAPHY. Look at these images! Amazing quality. William Downey was granted a ROYAL WARRANT.
