THE QUEEN MARY2: THE GREATEST OCEAN LINER EVER BUILT

I have written a great deal about our Queen Mary2 Trans-Atlantic Crossing.  I write about this event only because I wish to share another option for people wising to travel between Britain and the States.  I can report that it was a first-rate experience.  The best part of the whole experience is there was no jet lag when we arrived in Southampton.  For those of you who travel a great deal know that it takes at least a day to acclimate .  These are commercial photos provided by the Queen Mary, but they are good souvenirs–not very flattering photos, but that’s the risk when the ship’s camera stares you in the face.  Have a chuckle.

SHOPPING ON THE QUEEN MARY2

Shopping is one of my hobbies, and my son says it is my “bad habit.”   My wife looks the other way because she knows I love to buy her fine jewelry–especially exquisite pearls which I like most of all.  Well, I am not the only one on board who loves to buy fine pearls;  yesterday, Chopard’s shop was filled with happy customers.  I felt I had found some compatible travelers.  I do buy the “T” shirts and the ball caps–even a felt coat for our King Charles Cavalier Spaniel who is happily being cared for by his sitter at home.  Look at a few of the bits that drew my attention!  Remember, window shopping can be a lot of fun.  I suppose the salespeople call us TIRE KICKERS.

QUEEN MARY2: THE CUNARD ORCHESTRA

LET’S PAY TRIBUTE TO THE CUNARD ORCHESTRA.  This amazing group of musicians produces shows every night.  AND, they perform twice–once for those who dine at 6:00 PM and again for those who dine at 8:00PM.  Mrs. Moore and I have crossed the Atlantic on the Queen Mary2 on two occasions, and  we look forward to each night’s entertainment.  Last night, we enjoyed APASIONATA which was the most amazing dance troupe performance.  Really, I would feel remiss if I left this North Atlantic Crossing without expressing my appreciation and gratitude for the CUNARD ORCHESTRA.  HATS OFF to this wonderful group of musicians.

Day after day, I wander through the halls and rooms of this great Cunard Ocean Liner, and I am thrilled with the architectural details.  Every view is a masterpiece.  We arrive in England tomorrow morning, and I could not leave this beautiful floating palace without paying tribute to its exquisite beauty.  Have a look.

QUEEN MARY2: OUR LAST FORMAL EVENING — THE THOUGHT OF LEAVING OUR NEW FRIENDS MADE US PAUSE

This evening is our last formal night on the ocean liner.  We are passing through a very thick fog bank off the cost of Ireland, and the horns on the ship are echoing into the invisible night.  It has been bleak outside all day long, but inside the ship there were a lot of festivities:  shrimp, lobster, baked Alaska, beef wellington, the theater “La Pasionata,” beautiful clothes worn by the ladies and tuxedos for the men.  It has been a world apart, and none of us will ever forget it.  Our new friend with his kilt and family stood for my photographs.  Our admired German students who had spent a month in the States were all dressed up in their tuxedos and hungry like all young men;  we will miss those two fine young men, but we invited them to come to our mountains to ski or hike.  I think they liked the idea.  The waiters paraded through the restaurant to the appreciation and applause of the passengers who were enjoying their lobster dinner.  What a wonderful day, and I am happy to share it with you.  Stephanie was dressed in her best jewels as did all the other ladies;  they looked very beautiful.  What a fabulous memory.  Enjoy the photographs.

THE QUEEN MARY2: THE LIBRARY AND GIFT SHOP

I am posting three pictures of my wife to give you an idea of what a woman’s face is like when she is trying to get her husband to do something.  Stephanie was firmly determined, sweetly determined, figuring-our determined to get me to play bridge, listen to one lecture or another, or watch a movie.  I was DETERMINED that I was going to go to the swimming pool and then to the library.  The frowns on her face were deserving of a camera–hilarious!  I was not giving in!  So, I went off to the pool and then to the library where I was more than impressed.  The library is right on the prow of the ship.  A person who loves books like I love books is as happy as a pig in mud:  rows and rows of books, comfortable seating, views over the prow, and a few determined readers and many readers who have been lulled to sleep, even snoring.  Perfect!  Then there is the gift shop where wonderful puzzles, playing cards, post cards, books, and Queen Mary2 book marks are on offer.  The whole set up is wonderful.  I went to the library, brought my book with me, found the most comfortable chair, and promptly fell asleep–until the nice gentleman next to me nudged to say I was snoring.  There is my experience in the QM2 Library–but goodness, the view over the prow is spectacular!  I loved seeing all the young people working on their computers.  One of our German students on board was writing his thesis for his physics degree from Darmstadt.  I was impressed!  Wonderful place.
