I’M PERPLEXED; I AM NOT MOVING ALONG WITH THE TIMES VERY WELL!

Filed under: Society — tmooresr @ 1:45 am

Things are changing so fast these days;  I can’t keep up with it all.  I hear young people talking in cafes and restaurants, and in some cases, I don’t know what in the world they are talking about.  Everything is spinning past me, and I am afraid I don’t get it:  fashion, fashion, sex, family life, technology, language, literature, theater, cinema, on and on.  I have to say, in some of chaos, I don’t choose to be “with it” and “modern.”  I think I will just let it pass me by. I AM NOT MOVING ALONG WITH THE TIMES, I’M AFRAID.  I am not at war with the 21st century;  rather, I am confused by it all–and in some cases dismayed.  I do know that if my dear English granny were alive, she would tut-tut.  I make no judgments whatsoever;  I am simply unable to keep pace with it all.  Good luck to the FASTER LANE!

DOWNTON ABBEY has brought to light numerous social questions which affected the British aristocracy until World War I, 1918.  Very interesting article.

WHAT ABOUT A BIT OF MAYFAIR, LONDON, GOSSIP AND INTRIGUE TO END THE WEEKEND? ***This is funny!***

Filed under: Society — tmooresr @ 10:53 pm

My Granny said she liked “gossip,” but it had to be “GOOD GOSSIP” or she couldn’t be bothered.  Well, Granny, this is pretty cheap stuff—but it is funny.  I don’t know what “trash” is, but this is getting pretty close.

“EX-PAT NEWS MAGAZINE” CONSIDERS 10 SCANDALOUS ENGLISH LADIES; I have to grin!

Believe me, I am sure we could make a list of ten scandalous English ladies which would far outshine EX-PAT’s choices.  It is worth a grain anyway.

THE GREAT GENERATION: “ENGLAND’S FINEST HOUR” — The stories of a generation which make us pause!

Filed under: Society — tmooresr @ 4:39 am

I have often thought that the nature, motives, and  character of THE GREAT GENERATON would be totally foreign to the generation my grandchildren live in.  The economies of the Western World are in chaos with no one able or willing to fix them.  No one is willing to sacrifice for the general welfare of the nation.  Debt is the “style” of lives.  ”Entitlement” is the bottom line, and no one understands that for a nation to survive, people have to rethink such things as jobs, spending, luxuries, and physical health.  There is a general feeling that the “government” will pay.  Who is the government?  WE ARE!  When my grand old mother was in her late 80′s, she said to me:  I DON’T THINK YOUR GENERATION WILL EVER UNDERSTAND WHAT MY GENERATION HAD TO DO.  Every morning, I give my puppy a “treat,” and if I have run out, he sits on the foot of the bed and whimpers until he gets it.  My grandchildren, the neighbor children, and the young people at church are exactly the same.  Work and jobs?  No way!  Long live WELFARE.  I would like to obtain copies of these remarkable World War II films.  My grandfather used to say that an apple rots from within.  And a society?

LETTERS EXCHANGED BETWEEN THE MITFORD SISTERS: “LETTERS BETWEEN THE SIX SISTERS, THE MITFORDS”

Filed under: Society — tmooresr @ 6:51 pm

My grandmother often spoke of her distaste for the Mitford Sisters.  My grandfather loathed them, especially their Nazi sympathies.  My Aunt Lael gave me this book LETTERS BETWEEN THE SIX SISTERS, THE MITFORDS.  My wife and I have been reading it together.  I have found the letters fascinating, but I can understand why my own grandfather had no use for any of them, except the Duchess of Devonshire.  Let me publish a bit of history so you can read this very interesting booking with some background.  1925-1945 were very interesting times in Britain;  this book gives a great backdrop for the Prince of Wales.  He was a central figure in this group with similar political and social views.  Naughty ladies.  SHAME ON THEM, my Grandmother would have said.  She would have called them NASTY SILKIES.

Can you believe, Clementine Hosier Churchill was their cousin, and Winston Churchill a cousin by marriage.  I am sure he would have loved to shut them all up on more than on one occasion.

Very interesting reading.
