LONDON SOUVENIRS: THE PAPERWEIGHT

Next week, my son Thomas is taking his wife, son, sister, and nephew to London for a spring holiday.  One of my grandsons is eleven, and the other grandson is 12.  They are young, but we are trying to start their “London” experience and  hopefully affect their international travel attitudes.  A young child likes to come home with something to remind him of his trip and to share with his friends at home.  I think the football “soccer” banners for the bedroom and a collection of paper weights for their desks and dressers. These items are not expensive, but are “fun” for young people.  I am trying to make suggestions for adults who are eager to make their children’s first visit to London a great success.  I still have one paperweight which I bought one of my sons 25/30 years ago.  They still keep them fondly.

LONDON SOUVENIRS: WHERE CAN ONE PURCHASE SPECIAL ITEMS FOR A PET DOG AT HOME?

OUR POOR KING CHARLES CAVALIER has been subjected to “souvenirs” over the years.  Unfortunately, he will chew them up, run them into the dirt, or simply refuse to be fussed with our “playing house.”  Our puppy would prefer to be running the field and jumping into ponds, but I do love a spaniel.  He HATES being dressed up in his SOUVENIRS.  You can see what I mean:

THE JOY OF TRAVELING: SOUVENIRS FOR OUR FAMILY

Filed under: Souvenirs — tmooresr @ 3:29 am

Our family are always curious about what we are going to bring home for the grandchildren.  We do it because it stirs interest in travel, and children have difficulty visualizing ships, trains, planes, flats, etc., unless they have something tangible to remind them of far away events and places.  Mrs. Moore decided that all the grandchildren shall receive  OLYMPIC GAMES 2012  SWEAT SHIRTS.  I think you can tell from the face of my grandson Alec that he loves his grandmother for her gift.  What would we do without our families?  It is the PAYBACK in life!

FOR SOME REASON, I GET A LUMP IN MY THROAT

Filed under: Souvenirs — tmooresr @ 7:40 am

I am one of those individuals who loves to stand in front of a tourist trinket stand to look at all the postcards.  I love key chains, plastic snow scenes with falling snow, A-Z MAPS, souvenir pencils–that that junk.  If it is a really good postcard stand, I get a real lump in my throat, and I mean a tearful lump!  When I saw this stand on Regent Street during one of my walks, a tear ran down my cheek.  I said to myself:  I LOVE LONDON, I DO, I DO.

LONDON SOUVENIRS: DIAMOND JUBILEE SOUVENIRS, SEVERAL LAYERS ABOVE THE KITSCH *** The Queen’s Gallery, Buckingham Palace

No one likes a souvenir more than I do, I assure you.  I like to buy the Union Flag on the stick.  I like the souvenir tea cup and saucer.  I certainly collect the First Day Covers for royal events.  I have key chains, flash lights, post cards, on and on like everyone else.  But, for major events like coronations, royal weddings, and the Diamond Jubilee, I want something “grander” to pass down to my future generations like my ancestors did for me.  The Palace has just released a new plate called the Duke of York Service.  The large part of the service is in the Royal Collection and can be seen in the Porcelain Room at Windsor Castle.  The portion of the service was given to King George V and Queen Mary, once the Duke and Duchess of York at the time of their marriage in 1883.   The service was made for King William IV when Duke of Clarence in 1830. I have known this royal service for many years and have admired it at Windsor.  The Palace has had the service copied by the Staffordshire potters for the Queen Gallery Gift Shop.  One hundred and fifty pounds seems to me a very fair price, and I suggest this is a souvenir of your visit worth keeping for a very long time–long after the post card has faded and the tea cup has tumbled into pieces.  It is stunning.  I can’t wait to buy six of them for our luncheon room at home, and there will be lots of comments and fun conversation about them.  By all means, visit the Gift Shop at the Queen’s Gallery.  You will enjoy it.

THE ROYAL MINT 2002 GOLDEN JUBILEE CELEBRATION COINS — THE ROYAL PALACES

These beautiful coins were minted by the Royal Mint to celebrate the Queen’s GOLDEN JUBILEE in 2002.  They are large, beautiful designs showing the Queen’s five royal palaces in England.  I am excited to see the Royal Mint’s designs for the DIAMOND JUBILEE coinage.

Aren’t they beautiful!
