LISTENING TO WINSTON CHURCHILL WITH A VIEW BEFORE ME!

We drove home from Palm Springs this morning to be with my family for Thanksgiving.  It is 600 miles from Palm Springs to Salt Lake City, and I wanted to drive it in one day, knowing it would be a long haul.  I have a fast new car, but I decided I would obey the speed limits–that’s hard for me to do.  I had a brilliant idea;  I would listen to my recordings of Winston Churchill’s speeches which I have wanted to enjoy for a long time but never could find the time.  So, this was my big chance, and I have to say I had the most wonderful day:  the magnificent Churchillian speeches in my ears and mind with the most spectacular desert landscapes before me:  the red rock, the huge landscapes, the rugged jags, and the fabulous Joshua Trees and cactus everywhere.  I thought to myself that Churchill’s powerful speeches could match these mountains;  and I had them both at the same time as I was flying in my car across the immense and magnificent desert landscapes.  It was a fabulous day, and I am happy Churchill and I are home safely, ready for a big turkey Thanksgiving with all the trimmings.   I took a few images out the car window;  I hope you enjoy them.  I am sorry I can’t have you listen to Churchill as you enjoy these photographs.

SEBASTIAN FAULKS “BIRDSONG” Sunday evenings on BBC1 at 9:00 PM with Eddie Redmayne

I have been in England for the month of January, and as a man of route, I immediately established a routine that allowed for work, theater, concerts, walks, “motorbike” rides, museums, Portobello Road, and of course British TV.  The history channels intrigued, but BIRDSONG with Eddie Redmayne on BBC1 was one of the finest productions I have ever seen.   No matter what I was doing on Sunday evening, I had to be back at the flat by 9:00 PM to enjoy the next episode.  It was just like my DOWNTON ABBEY routine.  I knew who Eddie Redmayne was, but I had never really known him as a serious actor.  Well, I was “blown away” by his spectacular performance of a soldier in the First World War, fighting in the trenches of France–and he survived!.  I am hoping they publish the series for our TV’s, but I will even watch it again on my computer.  Truly, this is one of the best things I have seen on British TV in a long time–right along with Downton Abbey and a few others.  I have to find SEBASTIAN FAULKS novel.  Wow!

British TV–that ol’ TELE  –  I love it!  Wow
