THE WALLACE COLLECTION: REMBRANDT, BOUCHER, CANALETTO, RUBENS, HALS, CUYP, FRAGONARD, SULLY–on and on!

When I am in the WALLACE COLLECTION on Manchester Square, I wonder to myself WHERE ARE ALL THE VISITORS?  Next to the National Gallery and the Royal Collection, the Wallace Collection is the most important collection of fine paintings in London.  I really enjoy my time there because art should be seen in domestic settings.  Paintings were intended to adorn walls in rooms where there are fine pieces of furniture, exquisite tapestries, porcelain, miniatures, carpets, bronzes, chandeliers.  That is exactly what visitors find at the Wallace Collection.  I thought I would highlight a selection of my favorites paintings to encourage my readers to add The Wallace Collection to their itineraries.   The selection I am posting are my own snap shots which I collected for my own use as reference, so please forgive the amateur quality.  Let’s fill those magnificent rooms on Manchester Square to enrich our London cultural experience.  You will really enjoy it.

THE WALLACE COLLECTION ON MANCHESTER SQUARE

Filed under: The WALLACE COLLECTION — tmooresr @ 10:51 am

I love beautiful things!  I love 18th century porcelain, portraits, and furniture and have a lovely collection myself.  But my “heaven” in London is the WALLACE COLLECTION on Manchester Square.  Of all the museums and collections in London, the Wallace Collection is #1 for me.  The house is a profusion of the finest 18th century decorative arts.  This massive collection started at the time of the Prince Regent/King George IV  whose collecting ended up in the Royal Collection.  The Wallace Collection is not as vast as the Royal Collection, but the 18th century decorative French arts are of equal quality.  Anyone with these tastes must not come to London without including the Wallace Collection in the itinerary.  Here are a few images:
