PURCHASING TICKETS TO CONCERTS, THEATER, AND EXHIBITIONS ACROSS BRITAIN

Filed under: Theater,THEATER AND EXHIBITION TICKETS — tmooresr @ 2:36 am

Almost daily, we at the London Connection are asked where visitors to the UK — particularly to London — can purchase tickets for theater, concerts, and exhibitions.  My answer has always been go directly to the theater for best tickets.  But sometimes, it is easier to find good tickets to concerts and exhibitions from a central agency.  I have never used THE TICKET FACTORY; but yesterday, I was speaking to one of our returning clients who told me that they had booked all their “music” and “exhibitions”  from this source.  So, I put it out there for your consideration as another option in your search for activities for your up-coming trip to the UK.

THE HARLEQUIN: The comic figure

Filed under: Art and Sculpture,LITERATURE,Theater — tmooresr @ 7:57 am

The HARLEQUIN was the comic relief in 18th and early 19th century theater.  He was the character wearing the diamond pattern pants, always brightly painted, who is the comic on stage.  He is naughty, intriguing, outrageous, and hilarious.  In Commedia dell’arte theater, he became stylized in language, clothing, and role.  As theater moved through the decades, the HARLEQUIN became the clown, the villain– retaining his painted face and manners.  Such an attractive character would find itself expressed in art and porcelain as it certainly did.  I am attaching a few images of HARLEQUIN figures from the 18th century which are so wonderfully preserved in great collections such as the Victoria and Albert Museum.  We are peeking through the doorway at the 17th and 18th century, and these beautiful figures create music, voice, humor in our imaginary minds.  Every time I listen to Mozart’s THE MAGIC FLUTE, I become reacquainted with a wonderful HARLEQUIN. The V&A is an absolute “Must Visit” for your stay in London.  Enjoy.
