MRS. MOORE AND I PREPARE TO CELEBRATE 47 YEARS OF HAPPY MARRIED LIFE WHERE DID ALL THAT TIME GO? YIKES

Mrs. Moore and I have been married 47 years, and we are still traveling back and forth to Europe and the Orient with our children and grandchildren. This year’s crossing on the Queen Mary2 will be my 198th crossing either by ship or by airplane between the States and Europe/the Orient. So, Stephanie and I decided that we wanted to celebrate our 47 years of happy marriage on a Cunard ship, and the Queen Mary2 fit into our Europe for our fall trip to England and France. We crossed on the Queen mary last May, and we enjoyed it very much: meeting new friends, great accommodations, great food, lots of theater and lectures, and that fabulous ocean fresh air. I really enjoy this amazing ship. It was fabulous, so off we go again this summer. It is amazing how our lives have become a very set routine: January-February in London, March -April in the Rocky Mountains in Utah, May in Boston, June-July in Utah traveling locally, August-September in England and France, October-November in the Rocky Mountains, December- wherever our family gathers. After 47 year of marriage, the routine has become set in cement because it is the schedule which makes us happy. 47 YEARS! Wow! It couldn’t have been better. We have wonderful life-long friends on both sides of the Atlantic, and we are always eager to be with them. And our family? That’s where the great JOY is. Here we are these days–funny, actually!

THOMAS MOORE — JANUARY 2012 IN LONDON – PART #3

Thomas Moore Sr. in London, January 2012, PART #3. Wow! What a wonderful group of loyal readers, nearly 2 million now! I am humbled by your loyalty and support. I have posted three parts filled with photos from my camera’s loyal service. I am safely back in my office, and my camera and lenses all returned with big smiles and in good health–great old cameras. They are living beings for me, my wonderful friends. I love them. I went to a birthday party last night, and I felt naked without my camera. Funny how creatures of habit we all are! Well, London for me is images which I don’t seem to live without. I was stepping off one of the Thames River water taxis at Embankment after a ride from Canary Wharf, and I saw the most amazing view of a tug boat between bridges. I stood there silent for a moment, grabbed my camera, and without thinking started taking pictures. On another occasion, I was walking down the South Bank near the LONDON EYE and watched the sun drop behind the Palace of Westminster–Big Ben and all. It was just one of those moments that will live in my memory for as long as I live. I stood there frozen to my camera. A few moments later, a very kind man walked up to me and showed me the images he had taken of the same scene; one was an image of me frozen to my BIG LENS, completely absorbed in the magnificent moment before me. BLOG.LONDONCONNECTION.COM has a home base! AN 18TH CENTURY PAD FOOT TABLE IN MY DRESSING ROOM! Really amusing!

My office in town is covered in books and paintings and furniture and rugs and maps and engravings, and and and. But the real heart-and-home-base of blog.londonconnection.com is on a many-generation-owned 18th century pad food drop leaf table which has almost disappeared, buried in my dressing room under all the books I am researching. The walls are lined with books and papers; the floors covered with layers of vintage suitcases and camera equipment. My wife comes in and throws her hands in the air in total dismay! I have to laugh at myself, and I think you will get a kick out of it as well. This is a very, very large old house with empty rooms, filled with “stuff,” but I seem to find comfort in the cosy nest where my blog is the total focus. Notice in the image that I have a very large bottle of vitamins. But, goodness, this is so much fun!

GRANNY’S THINGS: STACKED ONE ON TOP OF ANOTHER

I have enjoyed people’s emails about my personal family emails. My Granny and my Granny Great were fabulous ladies, as you can imagine. Thank you for your humorous remarks about them. Believe me, I have had a lot of grins as well. This was my grandfather’s desk, piled with Granny Great’s stuff. She was so English I can tell you. Miss her.
