LONDON WEATHER IN PALM SPRINGS — JUST FOR TWO DAYS, HOWEVER!

I swear, wherever I go, London comes with me!  It rained so hard last night that Mrs. Moore and I could not sleep.  In fact, I have never seen such a heavy rain.  Actually, it was thrilled to hear and watch.  I think the desert is a “magical” place where nature can really do its thing.  This early morning, when I got up, the mountains were dusted with a rather nice layer of snow.  I could hardly believe my eyes.  London in January all over again.  I am happy to report that Palm Springs is returning to full sun, and we should be back to normal–that Londoners cannot claim.  I think these photographs are beautiful.

AS WE ARE PREPARING TO LEAVE FOR LONDON, OUR WINTER IN THE MOUNTAINS SENDS US OFF WITH A REAL BANG!

If you have ever skied in Rocky Mountain powder, you know how magnificent snow storms are.  As we are preparing to leave for London, a hearty mountain farewell sends us off with a real bang!  Living between London and Utah is having your cake and eating it too.  Last evening, when I heard our snow ploughs clearing snow off our driveways and walks, I decided it was time to take a late evening walk with our dog who loves to run through the soft snow in the buried gardens and over the  vanished lawns.   The family pet is a little guy who quickly disappears in the deep snow, so we have to keep him on his leash.  I thought my readers and contributors would like to see our world in the States during the early stages of a heavy winter storm. It has snowed all night, and the heaviest snows will come all day today.  A heavy storm like this would cripple London for a week–if not more.  But a snowball fight in Trafalgar Square would be a lot of fun.  I hope you enjoy the photographs.  My friends in Sydney and Perth who contribute so much to this blog are living in temperatures of nearly 100 degrees  these days and probably have no concept of these kinds of winters!  We like these friends very much anyway.

There will be between two and three feet here in the valley, but there will six to eight feet at our cabin in the mountains.  We are having a real winter–at long last.

LONDON WEATHER TRENDS

Filed under: weather — tmooresr @ 10:41 am

I love London weather.  I like the drizzles in the winter when there are no lines at many London sites, and I like walking with an umbrella and my camera.  I thrive in this moist weather.  Spring in London has no match;  the daffodils in Green Park make the trip worthwhile.  Summer is really “the unknown” for me.  I have been in London for Wimbledon and nearly died with the heat;  but other years, the event is rained out.  For me, the English summer is short, wet, with only a few days with what we would call “summer.”  But, on the occasion, it can be 90F and that is really, really warm for London.  Air conditioning is not universal, mostly because Londoners love being hot for the few days they “suffer” with the heat.  I know I never go to Paris in August because it is always too warm for my liking, so I stay in London where it is usually cooler and leaning toward my favorite period in London:  the fall.  September, October, and early November are my favorite months in London.  I love the crisp air when the fruit stands are filled with wonderful sweet Italian grapes.  All the tourists have gone home, and the city seems to cool down in more ways than one.  I live high in the Rocky Mountains half the year where winter means lots of snow and wonderful winter sports, but it is COLD.  So, when I am in London for New Years and January, I thrive with my cameras, warm coats, and felt hats.  For some reason, I feel more English this time of the year.  I don’t like seeing London with tourists in flip flops and ripped shorts;  it is like Disneyland, and that doesn’t go down well with me.  The seasons bring out a very different London that reinvents itself as the year changes its seasons, rotating year after year.  My favorite months?  September and October.  My least favorite?  August–without question.  I think this graft is generally pretty accurate.
